An ingot in the off hand, the hammer in the main hand, and strike: five blows make an iron, gold or copper plate.

Strike an iron or steel plate: a gear. A copper rod from the rolling mill: two copper cables. It only lasts 10 plates.

Some workbench recipes want it in their tool slot.

An anvil in the off hand, eight strokes of the saw: it splits into four machine feet, which every machine stands on.

The 5×5 workbench. Everything from the vanilla crafting table works here, plus the big recipes: machines, motors, panels, screens. Some want a tool in the dedicated slot.

Your first machine: iron, gold, copper, steel or netherite ingots come out as plates or rods.

It comes without rollers: flat rollers make plates, grooved rollers make rods. A set lasts about a thousand passes.

No power yet? Mount the crank on the end of the roller and turn it by hand.

The treated-iron forge makes steel: iron melts into the crucible (an ingot = 90 mB), each pour drinks 250 mB of lava and 4 coal, then goes to quenching. The quench tank wants one bucket of water, once.

The mould on the hatch decides what comes out: four steel ingots, or a small, medium or large raw block, ready to machine. The screen drains the crucible to switch metals.

It makes the forge's moulds with less sheet metal, using sand, on power. Clamping, heating, unmoulding: one light each.

Pick a part from the catalogue, put the steel raw block it needs on the table, and watch the head carve it pass by pass.

The part decides the block size: a piston fits a small block, an engine block needs a large one. Otherwise the screen says WRONG BLOCK.

The CNC mill cuts shapes neither the hammer nor the rolling mill can make: the dial base, the industrial crankshaft's webs.

A single block. It turns wood, iron, copper and redstone into small and large cylinders. The sandpaper wears out after ten pieces.

The compressor fills an air tank on power. Right-click it with the drill: the hose plugs in, up to 10 blocks, and snaps beyond that.

The drill screws; it carries no air of its own, it pulls from the tank.

The tyre changer marries a rim and a tyre: pick the wheel to build from the catalogue.

The balancer shows in red the places on the rim that lack weight: an iron nugget on each, spin it, and the wheel is balanced.

32 buckets of any fluid, other mods' included. Its level reads from across the room.

The coal generator: coal, charcoal or blocks (it stores 256), 80 seconds of 40 FE/t per piece. It needs water (bucket or pipe), or the fire won't start.

It's built around an industrial crankshaft, whose webs are milled one by one.

The redstone battery comes out of the workbench full and never recharges: your first source, before any sheet metal. Broken half-empty, it drops half-empty.

The steel battery is a real buffer (400,000 FE) the generator fills. The creative battery never runs out.

Cables are hung like leads: right-click a block, then a second one, up to 16 blocks. Further, clicking an ordinary block puts a junction box there. Sneak-click to unhook.

Bare copper cable fears rain: it sparks and cuts out. Sheathed cable, covered in plastic (MoreIndustry: Petrol, or any plastic), doesn't care. Spools store cable.

When power runs short, a machine runs in whole slices rather than flickering.

Plates and rods become copper coils, electric motors and reducers: the guts of every machine.

Glass, gold and redstone make an electrical box, then a control panel, then a touch screen for the CNC machines.

The dial base is milled; it makes the machines' dials and pressure gauges.

This book. A book and an iron ingot make another one.

The very first power. Hang a copper bucket full of water on a campfire (right-click the fire): it heats up, then boils for ten minutes.

Put a paper propeller right above the bucket and a small generator at the end of its axle: 10 FE/t while the water boils. A water bucket refills it; empty hand takes it off.

The shredder turns anything compostable into pulp. The digester makes biogas from it, and digestate - a fertilizer, and the starter of the next batch (for the first one: rotten flesh, or yeast from Extract).

Gases go from one machine to the next through pipes.

The scrubber splits biogas into pure methane and CO2. Methane, heated with a catalyst, gives a hydrocarbon mix; the column distills butane canisters from it.

Sixteen buckets of any gas; the shoulder takes the colour of what it holds. Broken, it keeps its gas.

The filler takes gas from a pipe on its back flange and bottles it: put the cylinder on the scale, the head comes down onto the valve. Empty hand to take it back.
